Fedora 40 is now available for new compute instances. The new release features many package upgrades as well as some brand new packages such as PyTorch, the popular deep learning framework.

The latest build features the 6.8.7 kernel, and, of course, a safe version of xz:

$ uname -a
Linux fedora 6.8.7-300.fc40.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Wed Apr 17 19:21:08 UTC 2024 x86_64 GNU/Linux

$ xz --version
xz (XZ Utils) 5.4.6
liblzma 5.4.6

The raw OS image clocks in at only 690 MB, allowing for a minimal base install with all the latest software available.
